Grass Roots Footie 2015/16 (everything except EPL)

Championship,Saturday 7th May....kick off 6.30pm Thai.....winner gets automatic promotion to the Premiership, although a draw would do for Middlesbrough.....= Big Money =; (see below)

Middlesbrough v Brighton: Premier League promotion decider 'worth at least £170m'

Promotion to the Premier League will be worth at least £170m to the winner of Saturday's Championship decider between Middlesbrough and Brighton, according to financial analysts Deloitte.
That figure could expand by around 41% to £290m if they avoid relegation in their first season in the top flight.
The £170m is made up of a minimum £95m for a year in the Premier League, plus two seasons of parachute payments.
Burnley have already been promoted after a 1-0 win over QPR on Monday.
The Clarets bounced back at the first attempt after being relegated to the Championship last season.
"Promotion to the Premier League provides clubs with the resources to make strategic investments on and off the pitch," said Richard Battle, senior manager in Deloitte's sports business group.
"While the short term priority is usually investment in the playing squad, a strong emphasis on ongoing financial stability can leave a club well positioned for the future - whether or not they survive that first season.
"Burnley bouncing straight back to the top flight of English football is evidence that short-term financial restraint can support medium-term success."

Edinburgh v East Stirling interesting??!! You are forgetting the big game, Preston v Leeds. 11th takes on 12th to decide who can finish top of the bottom half of the Championship and who finishes bottom of the top half. Will be glued to the tv to watch the results coming thru from this meaningless fixture.......Jeez that its come to this!!!!!!!

Hibs overturned the 1-0 deficit to beat Raith Rovers yesterday 2-0 in the two legged play off. They now face a semi final, again over two legs at home to Falkirk on Tuesday 10th May and away on Friday 13th May to see who will face Kilmarnock in the final of the play off's.

Middlesbrough 1 Brighton 1......Attendance: 33,806.

Middlesbrough ended their seven-year Premier League absence by drawing a tense and nervy Championship promotion decider against Brighton & Hove Albion at the Riverside.
Both sides began the game knowing that victory would see them join champions Burnley in the top flight next season, though a draw was enough for Boro to pip the Seagulls to second place on goal difference.
Cristhian Stuani's goal, from Gaston Ramirez's superb free-kick and David Nugent's touch across, put the hosts on their way in the first half.
Another free-kick led to Dale Stephens' equaliser, heading across goal at the back post after Brighton had begun the second period in full flow.
But Stephens was then dismissed for a foul on Ramirez - and Boro made the man advantage count to retain the scoreline for the rest of the game, including eight minutes of added time.

Oxford United and Bristol Rovers promoted to League 1 but Accrington Stanley have to settle for the play offs.
Forest Green reach the Conference play off final after beating Dover 2-1 on aggregate and will face either Braintree or Grimsby, who play today, for a place in League 2 next season.
And if any UM members have forgotten, today is the final day of League 1 fixtures with Scunthorpe,Barnsley and Gillingham all hopeful of making the final play off position.
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

Congratulations to Burnley & Middlesbrough for automatic promotion.
Difficult to guess who out of Brighton, Hull, Derby & Sheff Wed will join them.
table1.png
The decline of Bolton continues, MK Dons & Charlton join them in a trip to League One.

Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership - Play-offs

Hibernian 2-0 Raith Rovers
(agg 2-1)
Hibs turn the tie around at home & onto the next round...
Vanarama National League

Forest Green 1-1 Dover
(agg 2-1)
Hardly convincing by Rovers, but they do just enough to progress...
Mark Cooper was at the New Lawn to watch Forest Green after resigning as Notts County boss earlier on Saturday and BBC Radio Nottingham reports he is set to become Rovers' new manager.

Caretaker boss Scott Bartlett has taken charge of the Gloucestershire's club's last three games - all against Dover - since Pennock was dismissed to "boost the club's chances in the play-offs".

Well SUPER SUNDAY is all but done and Scunny almost made it but not quite ... loosing out on the last playoff spot on goal difference to Barnsley ...

Scunny beat Sheff U away 2 nowt BUT ... Barnsley also won away at Wigan ,,, a great second half of the season for the Iron SO NEAR BUT YET SO FAR , never mind maybe for the better as im sure they will be far more cpmpetitive and in n around the top of League 1 as opposed to getting their arses kicked week in week out in what is shaping up to be a Championship hard to stay in ...many big clubs and looking like the Magpies n Canaries will be joining Villa in it next year.

sorry wrong thread but what a brilliant game and result at the Stadium of light has Big Sam done it again ??????

CARMORN BRAINTREE ... do the codheads Pleeeeeeeeeeeeease

Commiserations Jon.
But, as you say, maybe a blessing in disguise. Clubs that race through the leagues often tumble in the same fashion.

Vanarama National League

Braintree 0-2 Grimsby
(agg 1-2)
Grimsby will face Forest Green at Wembley on 15 May to see which is promoted. The game was a tight affair that needed a penalty for Grimsby to send it into extra time. As the hosts were reduced to 10 men as that started there was only going to be 1 winner.

Woke up this morning to find no internet :( ......only just come back on.
Sorry to see Scunny didn't quite make it but you couldn't legislate for Barnsley winning 4-1 at champions,Wigan.
But another season in League 1 wont do them any harm and they should be able to make a big promotion push next time around.
Very sad that Braintree missed out,also.....a penalty with 15 minutes to go and a sending off meant they were really up against it in extra time.
Incidentally, the crowd of 3,102 was the biggest to watch a Braintree home game since 1952.
Right....just off to check the EPL results.....I just hope Citeh have dropped points to salvage something from a disastrous footie weekend ?? \:D/

First leg ended Hibs 2 Falkirk 2,so you would feel a great chance for Falkirk to make it to the play off final now.

'Una' (Aunt Sally) Stubbs must be extremely disappointed in the way his side lost at Falkirk, with the winner two minutes into injury time and watching the highlights the whole defence seemed to ball watch as a long throw in came into the box. (Sorry my bruv  )

They can now concentrate on the Scottish Cup Final against my lot who seem to have signed a very good prospect, Jordan Rossiter from Liverpool on a four year deal as our return to the SPL beckons. He has played for the LFC first team on five occasions.

Sky Bet Championship
Derby 0-3 Hull

Sky Bet League One
Barnsley 3-0 Walsall

Sky Bet League Two
Wimbledon 1-0 Accrington

Vanarama National League North
North Ferriby United 2-1 AFC Fylde

Vanarama National League South
Ebbsfleet 2-2 Maidstone United
Maidstone United win 4-3 on penalties

Ladbrokes Scottish League One - Play-offs

Queen's Park 0-1 Clyde
(agg 3-2)

Ladbrokes Scottish League Two - Play-offs
East Stirling 0-1 Edinburgh City
(agg 1-2)
Hull were just too organised at the back for Derby & took whatever chances that came their way at the other end. Derby were actually the only team to win in the Championship at Hull during the season. But, surely, to turn this around is asking too much!!

Ladbrokes Scottish League Two - Play-offs
East Stirling 0-1 Edinburgh City
(agg 1-2)

Great achievement by Edinburgh City in gaining SPFL status for the first time in their history as they won in front of less than 1,500 spectators. Amazingly their home games are played at the Old Commonwealth Games Athletic Stadium, Meadowbank in the city with a capacity of 16,500. =D>
